NYU-University of Cambridge Mainzer Fellowship in Gender Studies

The applications for 2010 Mainzer Fellowship will be due on Tuesday March 10th, 2009 and the selection of the fellows will be announced Friday April 10th, 2009.

The Mainzer fellowships provide funding each year to enable two NYU graduate students whose work, in whatever field, involves gender, to attend an eight-week course in Gender Studies at the University of Cambridge. The NYU students live in Jesus College, one of the oldest of Cambridge’s colleges, and are able to participate fully in the activities of the college. They will also be able to attend University lectures and to use the libraries and other facilities. The U. Cambridge Centre in Gender Studies, directed by Professor Juliet Mitchell, offers a weekly seminar in which the NYU students will take part. They will have an opportunity to present their research to colleagues and also to receive individual supervision from members of the faculty.

The program is designed primarily for graduate students who are currently at the dissertation stage and whose work would benefit from this opportunity. Other graduate students working on their MFA or similar terminal degrees, will also be considered. Qualified Masters students are also invited to apply. The fellowship, launched last year, runs from mid-January to mid-March, the Lent term at U. Cambridge. The stipend of $8,000 covers air fare, tuition, college fees and room and board.
