Haggler Wins Dissertation Fellowship Award
Patricia Haggler, a doctoral student in the history of education program in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences in the Professions, was awarded a $25,000 dissertation fellowship from the Spencer Foundation. Haggler's dissertation, "Remember the Sabbath: African- American Sunday Schools, Education, Activism, Community Building, 1890-1954," examines how the Sunday schools of American religious denominations historically known as "the Black church" served as a supplementary form of education for children during the southern Jim Crow era and the emerging Civil Rights movement.
