Music Therapy Students

Master’s students at NYU are dedicated to directing their exceptional talents in music to working with people in need of mental, physical and /or emotional help. Throughout the program the students are actively working in the NYC community with patients guided by experienced music therapists. Some students travel abroad during their school breaks to help people around the world in need. Recently, one student went to Africa to help adolescent girls in a war torn country and another went to Thailand to help Tsunami victims. Many students continue to pursue their already distinguished performing or teaching careers in music while they are in training.

Here is a profile of one student while finishing her course work:

We are proud of Vanya Green who has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study Sephardic and Middle Eastern singing and ethnomusicology in Tel Aviv, Israel for the upcoming academic year. She is planning to work as well with children of diverse backgrounds using music as a bridge for communication and understanding.

Before going to Israel, Vanya will do a short term study of Sephardic music in Greece and Turkey funded by the Susan Eliakim Siman Scholarship for Sephardic Studies from the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at New York University.
