Current Student Auditions & Ensembles

Auditions for all orchestras, choirs and ensembles will be held the week before Fall 2008 classes begin. Auditions begin August 25, during Welcome Week. Please read the following information and then click on the sign up link below to schedule your audition.

Brass, Woodwind and String students are auditioning for placement in ALL ensembles (all chamber groups) not only orchestras. Piano auditions are by appointment only with Dr. Marilyn Nonken. Classical percussion lessons for non-percussion performance majors requires successful completion of an audition and placement in the percussion ensemble as well as possible participation with one of the symphony orchestras.

All Steinhardt music performance majors must audition for placement in either the NYU Symphony or Repertory Orchestra (except for returning Woodwind performance majors who do not need to re-audition). All Steinhardt music majors who played in the Community Orchestra during the 2007-2008 academic year and wish to continue to play in any of the orchestras during the 2008-2009 academic year must re-audition. Placement in the Community Orchestra for returning Steinhardt Music Majors is not automatic. You may be placed in the NYU Symphony Orchestra or the NYU Repertory Orchestra. It is possible to play in both the Community Orchestra and one of the other orchestras concurrently. However, all placements for music majors will be by audition only.

All non-music majors wishing to play in the Community Orchestra, including those that were members in the 2007-08 season, should sign up for auditions using the “Auditioning for Community Orchestra” option on the online form. All non majors are encouraged and welcome to audition for the NYU Symphony and Repertory Orchestras.
