The Dance Education program is one of the most diverse programs in the Department with students attending from Korea, China, Peru, Canada, Brazil, and from across the nation. Some students work full-time, tend to families and decide to attend graduate work after already succeeding in a career. Most of our students have spent between three and five years after undergraduate work exploring various career options. A few demonstrate unusual achievements in undergraduate work and are accepted immediately. Read current student bios here.

My position at Middlesex County College in NJ as the Dance Instructor will enable me to secure tenure status with my Master’s degree from NYU. The Dance Education program at NYU was my first choice because it focuses on the most current and effective methods for teaching dance. The program has an excellent reputation in regards to honoring student individuality and student leadership as means to become an innovator in the dance education field.
At NYU my passion for dance is growing into a career for life. I am living my dream and I believe if anyone has ever thought of becoming a dance educator they should not miss an opportunity for an education from NYU. There is nothing like it! All day, everyday I get to work with and learn from talented faculty, staff, students and children.
Dance has always been my passion. The program offered me an opportunity to follow my dreams and to pursue a career in my true interest: Dance and Children. I am on the K-12 track. The program offers an extensive training program that appeals to my professional needs.
I love the program because of its unique and diverse curriculum which is preparing me for the challenges I will face when I begin teaching. Through in-depth research projects, curriculum, unit and lesson planning and hands-on teaching experience, I am being given the knowledge and tools necessary to become a leader and a visionary in the field of dance education. The dance education faculty is extremely supportive and through many modes of inquiry, they constantly encourge us to challenge and reevaluate our thinking.
