Our richly diverse brass faculty include some of the most distinguished players in the major New York orchestras as well as renowned soloists and clinicians. These include Brass Chair Sean Reed, Tom Hutchinson and Per Brevig, former principal trombonist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra; world-renowned virtuoso tuba player, Marcus Rojas; noted french horn performer and teacher, Joe Anderer (member, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra); Barbara Oldham with the Quintet of the Americas and Ann Elsworth of Manhattan Brass. David Krauss and Mark Gould, current and former principal trumpets in the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra; Laurie Frink, noted trumpet teacher and sought-after clinician; and Tom Hoyt, a major freelance trumpeter round out our selected brass faculty.
In addition, several chamber music concerts per year provide brass students with opportunities to perform in brass quintets, quartets and trios as well as with other mixed ensembles, taught by our leading ensemble faculty. The Symphony and Repertory Orchestras present several concerts per year and includes concerto competitions. Further orchestral experiences are available in our fully-staged opera and music theatre productions under Broadway and major opera company music directors as well as in our recording studios and for film scoring. Students may also participate in the NYU New Music Ensemble.
