Alumni Bio Michael Gitig
Michael Gitig (Music Business, B.M. 2003)
Originally from Los Angeles, Mike moved to New York to experience the cultural and artistic diversity that only NYC has to
offer.
While at NYU, he was fortunate to have the opportunity to work and learn about various areas of the music industry. He spent 2 years in the publicity and promotions department at Irving Plaza and one year as the assistant to the VP of A & R at Verve Records, where he worked with jazz greats like Jimmy Smith and (NYU jazz faculty member and near legend) John Scofield. Mike was also a member of the Steinhardt Undergraduate Student Government and President of the Arts Integration Society.
Outside of NYU, Mike managed a couple of his classmates’ bands including Color and Talea (Anthony Buonpane '03) and Ish Lab (Mark Middleton '05). He also produced and promoted live events throughout the New York area.
After graduation, Mike returned to Los Angeles where he started and is currently the executive director of the Life Through Art Foundation; a non profit dedicated to providing opportunities in the arts for children. Please visit www.LTAF.org for more information or to get involved. Mike has also been trying his hand in the film industry. Most recently, he was a producer on the short film, Sleeping Dogs Lie (www.SDLmovie.com), that featured acclaimed actor, Ed Asner alongside rock music icons Brad Wilk (Audioslave / Rage Against the Machine) and Maynard Keenan (Tool / A Perfect Circle).
