Equity Assistance Center(EAC)

The Metro Center for Urban Education is pleased to count The Equity Assistance Center (EAC) among its exemplary programs. EAC embodies the spirit of the Metro Center mission and gives priority assistance to public school districts to help them maintain or advance access to quality, previously denial by tracking and segregation of their schools in a manner that will result in higher achievement in reading, mathematics, and other core subjects. EAC is one of the Metro Center's core programs to improve public education. Since 1980, EAC has worked with public school districts in an ongoing, largely successful effort to achieve equitable representation and opportunity among all population groups who attend public schools.
EAC is a critical partner in the U. S. Department of Education's implementation of the The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. There are ten regional Equity Assistance Centers funded by the U.S. Department of Education under Title IV of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; the priorities of that legislation are the basis for all EAC services and activities. Each of the regional Equity Assistance Centers serves a particular geographic region. The NYU EAC at Metro Center serves New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
