CLICK4HP- Health Promotion on the Internet

A listserv originating in Canada for those interested in health promotion and health education, co-facilitated by Liz Rykert (lrykert@web.net) and Alison Stirling (alison@cpc.on.ca) with background support by Sam Lanfranco (lanfran@yorku.ca). Subscribers are mostly Canadian but include others from around the world.

The CLICK4HP home-page is at: http://www.opc.on.ca/click4hp/c4hpflyr.htm and it also contains links to several edited discussions that have occurred online

The Archives are accessible in two formats - in HTML through a Java enabled browser (Netscape 2.0, IE 3.0 or higher) at the CLICK4HP Public Folders http://community.opc.on.ca/Exchange/ [click on Public Folders, then select CLICK4HP]

Or in plain text through a news-reader through newsreader software. The news server is called community.opc.on.ca; this type of software has the ability to get newsgroups and to subscribe to them. The folders appear under the hierarchy community-news. Another quick way to access them through the newsreaders built into the recent versions of Navigator and Explorer is to type the following URLs into the location area of the browser. news://community.opc.on.ca/community-news.click4hp

An international listserv for health educators operated by Mark J. Kittleson (kittle@siu.edu) of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in the USA. As of January 1997, there were more than 700 subscribers to this list, mainly from the USA.

A health promotion discussion list operated by Craig Roberts (cmrober1@facstaff.wisc.edu) of the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the USA. This list provides a forum for the exchange of information among more than 300 professionals providing health promotion and disease prevention services within institutions of higher education mostly within the USA.

Bulletin Board Services

HEDIR Chatroom

The New HEDIR Chatroom is now available for use among health educators. The chatroom does not require any special software...just an internet browser (i.e., Netscape). There is no membership fees, passwords, or accounts needed...one just signs in when they enter the chatroom. Plans are currently being made to host several "open" discussions, so check the HEDIR Chatroom information site for times.

HEDIR Bulletin Board Service

In addition, there is a HEDIR Bulletin Board available. The Bulletin Board can be used to post messages and other items of importances. As with the HEDIR Chatroom, there is no membership fees, passwords, or accounts needed.
