- Graduate Programs
UPDATE as of Tuesday, August 26, 2008: The online application for spring 2009 and summer/fall 2009 will be available beginning September 3, 2008.
NYU Steinhardt's Office of Graduate Admissions handles all applications to master's, doctoral, and advanced certificate programs. Applicants may submit an application using our online system or may submit a paper application by downloading and completing the PDF version (see below).
Deadlines
Regardless of how an application is submitted, materials must be received by Graduate Admissions, not postmarked, by the appropriate deadline. An application is considered received by the deadline when all required documents (whether submitted online or by mail) are received in our office (not postmarked) by the appropriate deadline. Only completed applications are reviewed by the Admissions Committee.
Special Notes
Non-degree applicants must submit the paper version of the application.
Online Applicants:
- Must be prepared to pay the application fee using a major credit card.
- May request letters of recommendation be submitted online. Applicants submitting the paper application cannot submit letters of recommendation online.
- Should have documents not submitted online sent to Graduate Admissions in a single envelope:
- Document Cover Sheet
- Official transcripts from each postsecondary school attended. Request that transcripts be mailed to you. Do not open them when they arrive - we must receive them in sealed envelopes. Official transcripts that are stamped "issued to student" but remain in sealed envelopes are considered official by the Office of Graduate Admissions.
- Art/Music Portfolio (if required)
- Audition Recording (if required or if submitting in place of a live music performance or dance education audition)
- Copy of GRE Scores (if required)
- Copy of TOEFL Scores (if required)
- Recommendations if not submitted via the online system.
Paper Application
Applicants using the paper application:
- Must pay the application fee by check or money order drawn on a U.S. bank in U.S. dollars.
- Must gather all required documents and submit to Graduate Admissions together in a single envelope.
- Cannot submit letters of recommendation using the online system

Non-Matriculated (Special/Non-Degree) Application
U.S. citizens or permanent residents not seeking a graduate degree may be considered for non-matriculated student status. Non-degree study provides an opportunity to investigate a new career path or to expand knowledge in a particular area. Non-matriculated applicants enroll in graduate-level courses in the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development and must meet academic standards. Applicants will be considered based on a review of a completed Non-Matriculated Application and an undergraduate transcript indicating degree conferral. Non-matriculated applicants must use the paper application listed below.
The following programs/departments do not allow special student enrollment: Art Therapy, Music Business, Music Therapy, Physical Therapy and Speech Language Pathology.
Students interested in enrolling in courses offered in Nutrition; Higher Education; or Occupational Therapy must first meet with a departmental advisor to obtain permission to register.
